We all have dreams of doing and achieving something great. Whether it is something long-term or more short-term, we are all striving on a daily basis to meet our goals. But we don’t always achieve them and our “to-do” list sometimes remains unchanged or simply gets longer. We earnestly want to check items off this list, but find it difficult or impossible. In your own life, think about something you wanted to achieve that you talked yourself out of doing or just have not gotten around to yet. Why? Procrastination and fear of failure.
There are no guarantees in tomorrow except that no action will guarantee no positive outcome. As for failure, it is a necessary component of success. Failure is actually a step forward in the right direction. Every time you try to do something and fail, you actually gain something out of the experience. Think about the old saying: “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” The root of the wisdom there lies within the idea that you can only truly learn by doing something and seeing if it works or not. Failure is not “end-game,” but is simply a re-direction. It exposes areas that are not working so you can fix them or make a change. Failure, then, is actually a necessary tool to sharpen our edge.
Think about something important to you that will give your life a sense of value. Maybe it is that dream you’ve had for a long time or the elusive goal on your everlasting “to-do” list. Don’t worry about how you are going to do it – you will develop a plan – just start taking action now. As humans, we often try to calculate our odds of success based on past experiences as a means to determine whether we should or will expend the effort moving forward. However, true outcomes are determined not by logic but on the field of action. As Jim Rohn says, “The last six months have nothing to do with the next six months.” Your past is not an accurate predictor of your future.
Decide to make today the beginning of your amazing future. Is there a chance you will fall flat on your face? Sure. But there is also the chance you will discover you are powerful beyond measure and can achieve your dreams. We all get one chance to write our story. Make today the day you decide to write the story you will be proud to call your legacy.
