The arrival of the New Year has many of us thinking about our New Year’s Resolutions. The end of the holidays allow most of us a little more breathing room as extended families return home, kids go back to school and we resume our normal schedules. As a result, we have the time we need to focus on what we want to achieve in the upcoming year and reflect on what we have already accomplished.
New Year’s Resolutions come in all shapes and sizes. Your resolutions may be personal or business-oriented. The one thing they all have in common is they represent what you want to get done in your life. Successfully completing the New Year’s Resolutions you set means you are able to reach your hopes and dreams for yourself and your family.
Take a look at the resolutions you are creating right now, as well as those from the past three years, because we are going to ask you a very important question. Ready? The question is – when was the last time completing, updating or just checking in on your estate planning was at the top of your list?
The reality is that, for most of us, estate planning didn’t make the cut this year. Or for the three years prior to now.
Complete and current estate planning is a crucial resolution for you to set right now. Better than diet, more long lasting than exercise (and these two resolutions are consistently in the top five of all resolutions nationally each year), estate planning is the resolution that truly protects you in times of crisis as well as your family, even after you are gone. Yet, despite the significant advantages good estate planning provides, it never gets added to the list.
There are many reasons we put completing our estate planning off. Just a few of these reasons include the time it takes, the mistaken belief it is too costly, and the fact that you must answer the tough questions about what happens if you pass away or are significantly disabled. No matter what your objections, however, it is time to talk about it. Through your complete California estate planning, we can set goals and objectives for you and your loved ones, to make sure you are all provided for in the event of any potential, future crisis.
This is the year to put your California estate planning at the top of your New Year’s Resolutions. This is the time to think not just about your resolutions for this year but your long-range goals for yourself and your family. Together, we can discuss how estate planning provides you the preparation and security to reach your goals for now and well into the future.
